The Individual Correspondence Courses offer stitchers a way to expand their skills, by learning a new technique or refining skills in a technique they already know. Courses can range from three to nine classes. There is frequent interaction with the teacher, as each lesson requires that the student submit a piece for evaluation. Here, we highlight stitchers who have completed an ICC.
This month, we congratulate Delia Love of Williston, FL.
Delia is a member of Suwannee Stitchers Chapter in the Sun Region. She took Rainbows Bend: A Course on Color Theory with Carole Rinard. Here is what she says about her experience:
“I wanted to design my own pieces so after taking Catherine Jordan’s “Design Like a Pro” class, it became clear I needed to learn color selection.
I liked so many things about the class. I loved doing the research papers and learning about famous artists, their techniques, and symbolism of color. I learned so much: symbolic wedding dress colors through the centuries; notable artists of Pointillism such as Seurat and Signac and its color application to embroidery; the great masters DaVinci and Hokusai and their techniques.
Illusion of Depth and classic Color Combinations were my favorite lessons because I gained a better understanding of composition and color values.
Some of Carole Rinard’s lessons were very challenging but designed for wonderful achievements in embroidery. I looked forward to her critiques of each lesson. She is incredibly kind and patient. Having taken her class has definitely motivated me to continue learning about Color Theory. I love to do botanical paintings, so I plan on designing and stitching botanical themes in the future. I truly believe that before you learn about color it’s important to know its history.”
