Much of Shelley’s work focuses on the concept of fragmentation, followed by reconstruction, repair and fixing back together in some way. She often works large, before fragmenting cloth or paper into smaller pieces then re-joining with stitch, pins, tacks, tape, glue, plaster or wire. During this talk she will show how she uses Japanese Boro and Kantha making to inspire layering and mending. She will also share how she uses discarded, overlooked fragments as inspiration for drawing, mark-making and printing, before incorporating them in her finished pieces.
Best regards,
Donna Kuhl, Fiber Forum Lecture Coordinator
