Registration for Virtual Classes Opens April 14, 2026
Virtual class and kit fee are non-refundable.

Virtual Class Registration Fees – In addition to the kit fee for each virtual class, there is a registration fee based on the class length.
One half day class – $40.00 There is no kit fee for this class
Two-day class – $150.00
Three-day class – $180.00 There is no kit fee for this class
Four-day class – $250.00
The price in CVENT combines the registration fee with the kit fee for a total payment due. Virtual Classes are nonrefundable. The $125 non-refundable fee that is included with registration amounts for in-person classes CANNOT be transferred to pay for virtual classes.
International Students will pay an additional postage fee, based on their location. International students will be contacted individually to determine extra postage costs.

5004 Almost Autumn
Taught by Hazel Blomkamp (view bio)Hailing from South Africa, Hazel Blomkamp is the author of 10 – going on 11 – books. She has designed, written about and taught embroidery and beadwork for more than thirty years and is best known for her less conventional approach to embroidery and Crewel embroidery, in particular.

This project is worked with a variety of surface embroidery stitches, along with needle lace techniques and loom weaving patterns, both modified for use as embroidery stitches. Step by step instructions, along with color images, diagrams and stitch guidelines are provided in the instruction booklet that accompanies the full kit. Classwork will be done on a doodle cloth with additional threads and beads. High resolution video clips for all the stitches and techniques that are taught will be provided in the online private domain so that participants will be able to reference them later. Access to these clips does not expire.

5009 Amphitrite Needlecase
Taught by Wendy Innes (view bio)Wendy began her needlework journey at the young age of 7, under the instruction from her mother. She was fortunate to have inherited her father’s artistic gene that runs strong in her family. Wendy’s early passion has evolved over the past 40-plus years and she has won a number of awards and accolades, as far back as high school. She has continued to demonstrate mastery with most recent multiple stumpwork designs published in the Australian “Inspirations Magazine” in 2022. Wendy has a passion for anything with a threaded needle and has been teaching many forms of needlework extensively for over 30 years in Canada, Australia, and the US with a specialty in Stumpwork.

Named after Amphitrite, goddess of the sea. with her glistening tail and shimmering fins, she rises to the surface with treasures from the sea. Students will work all aspects of the “Amphitrite Needlecase” stumpwork project, giving them the ability to complete their very own sea life treasure. A fully functional needlecase opens to enable you space to store your needles. Students will learn several useful stumpwork techniques, giving them the ability to complete their very own sea life treasure, such as using felt to add dimension, working on a slip and adding to main design, working a detached element using wire, creating curly hair and adding to your piece. Amphitrite is worked on a cotton background using metallics, rayon and DMC floss.

5013 Tall, Dark and Handsome
Taught by Jennifer Riefenberg (view bio)Jennifer is an accomplished needle artist, meshing her love of the arts into new and varied mediums. She loves teaching others, both the skills and the pure love and joys of art and creativity. Jennifer holds certifications through National Academy of Needlearts (NAN) as a Teacher/Designer and also as a Judge. Jennifer is on the board of NAN as the Assistant Director of Judging. Jennifer has taught at National Seminars for ANG and NAN. Jennifer has won numerous awards for her needleart and other artwork. She had a piece accessioned into the permanent collection at the Gregg School of Art & Design at North Carolina State University.
She also shoots fine art photographs, especially nature and black & white photos. The visual journey continues as Jennifer is also a winner of national and regional awards with her paintings. Jennifer paints in various mediums – but is most at home, outside with nature and oil paint. 5016 Possibilities for Mixed Media and Fibers
Taught by Laura Smith (view bio)Laura Smith is an embroidery innovator, nationally known designer, and teacher. She holds the Master Craftsman in Color from the Embroiderers Guild of America (EGA) and has won their National Gold Thread Award for service in 2021. She has served as chair for the Master Craftsman in Color Program from 2006 – 2018, Chairman of Fiber Forum (2011 – 2015), seven terms as president of her chapter, and has held every chapter office. She is a former Executive Director of an arts center and holds an MBA as well as an undergraduate degree in chemistry — valuable for understanding paint and mixed media materials.

With the end goal to create a resolved stitched design, this class is a deep exploration of mixed media that are compatible with embroidery. You will learn safe, archival quality ways of using the media with textiles. Begin with small samples of the media and techniques to assure that these will give the intended effect in your design. Learn to build up surfaces with color, construct layered effects, and deconstruct the materials to create unusual textures. Choose a theme for your design(s) and receive feedback on relevant design and color aspects. Work with Lutradur (heavy and ultra-light), heat sensitive film, Tyvek, PearlEx pigments, fabric paint, gel media, puff medium, textural fabrics, ribbon, and threads. The comprehensive kit includes a 40-page text and a stitchable accordion fold book (eight 5” x 7” pages of 100% rough cotton rag paper). Gentle forward movement, reassuring mentoring, and reinforcement of design and color knowledge extend throughout the class and beyond.

Kit Contents: Stitchable 100% rough cotton rag paper accordion fold book with eight pages; four extra 4” x 6” postcards of the same paper; Lutradur 100 (firm fabric with translucent areas made by Pellon) size 20” x 12,” eight Lutradur postcards size 4” x 6”, eight mixed media weight paper postcards and more.
Student Provides: Scissors for fabric, paper, and metallic threads; about 100 sewing pins, tape, ruler, ballpoint pen, an iron, and ironing board, puff additive ($13 for 4 oz from Dharma Trading). Optional: beads and attachments if desired. If students wish to do extensive work with heat, a respirator is advisable (about $30). They may choose to purchase an embossing tool (about $20), but most processes will work with an iron. -
5017 Arrival of Spring
Taught by Gail Stafford (view bio)Gail Stafford holds EGA Master Craftsman certifications in Canvas Embroidery, Color for Needlework and Design for Needlework. She is the author of Undulations II, an EGA correspondence course. She has been on the faculty of ANG and EGA seminars and has presented numerous programs for ANG and EGA chapters. Her current needlework focus is on translating scenic images into canvas embroidery designs, but she also enjoys Bargello. Her work has won many prestigious awards and has been published in Needle Pointers, Needle Arts, and Needlepoint Now.

This beautiful yard and its lovely gazebo are located just around the corner. Who wouldn’t notice it on a walk in the neighborhood? This scene celebrates the arrival of spring with its fresh green grass, flowering white azaleas, the dogwood tree in full bloom, and new leaves on the red maple. Participants will learn to paint the unstitched sky. They will use a variety of overdyed threads, stranded embroidery cotton, and some thread blending to stitch this neighborhood scene. Canvas stitches include Cashmere, Diagonal Cashmere, Nobuko, Reversed Nobuko, Criss Cross Hungarian and more. A few sharp needle techniques are used including the Outline Stitch and Lazy Daisies.

5018 Exploring Hardanger Fillings

She has written nine step-by-step embroidery books, seven books focusing on historical needlework (hardanger, Mountmellick, merezhka, Portuguese whitework, Sardinian knotted embroidery, and smøyg), and two stitch dictionaries, with one for left-handers and one for right-handers. Her most recent book Smøyg: Pattern Darning from Norway, published in September 2018, features a technique that uses simple running stitches to create embroidered items of beauty in the Norwegian style. She loves sharing embroidery with others and helping them to understand the technique’s historical and cultural context. Yvette lives in Sydney, Australia.

This sampler focuses on intricate and lesser-known Hardanger filling stitches, with special attention to achieving the right tension so the stitches truly “sing.” Working on 28-count linen with pearl cotton, you’ll learn eleven different fillings, along with pulled thread stitches such as four-sided, cable, and diamond eyelets. Some pre-stitched satin work will be provided so you can concentrate on the filling stitches. Ideal for those wanting to refine their Hardanger skills in a structured and supportive environment.
Technique: Hardanger
Proficiency: Advanced Intermediate – This class is for experienced Hardanger stitchers.
Prerequisite knowledge: Students must be competent with satin stitch and kloster blocks, and must stitch them (accurately) before the class using a provided chart – they will not be taught in class.

Ok, maybe not billions! If bullion knots have ever frustrated you, this class will help. Many find them tricky, so I’ll show you a method that you may not have tried before which is successful for many. In this half-day class, we’ll experiment with wrapping direction, tapering bullions (how to achieve or fix them), and what to do when your bullion becomes a nightmare of knots. This class has no specific project—just focused stitch exploration and technique improvement. The attached photo is for inspiration only.
