Learn the history and techniques of the Japanese art form of Sahiko Embroidery

Registration for our upcoming online class Sashiko Sampler with Jacqui Clarkson ends on July 7, 2021. On this three-lesson course you will learn about the history of this Sashiko embroidery as well as the techniques of this Japanese art form. The first lesson will be posted on September 1, 2021. The following lessons will be posted on September 15 and 29, 2021.

Sashiko came to be out of necessity but now the quiet, contemplative techniques are for enjoyment as well as stitch diagrams. Working on Sashiko embroidery encourages a Zen-like state as you learn and create your piece or pieces.

Registration for this class comes with a full kit that includes indigo fabric, a white marking pencil, graph and tracing paper, Sashiko thread and needles and a Japanese thimble!

Here’s a quick rundown of how our online classes work: Registered students receive the class kit 2 weeks prior to the start of class. Students get access to the Lesson PDFs based on the class schedule and to a class discussion group where the teacher will answer students’ questions and where students can post photos of their progress and communicate with each other. Lessons can be downloaded at any time up to two months after the last lesson is posted.
