Winning Ways Lectures
Winning Ways is a series of four lectures sponsored by the EGA Certified Judges Program. The lectures are open to anyone interested in needlework, color and design. This year the topics will explore how art critics view works of art, traditions and contemporary applications of Japanese Embroidery and Or Nue”, and creating texture with various techniques. Please join us on August 26th from 9 am to 4 pm.
Natalie Dupuis: “Or Nue’: Evolution and Misconceptions” The Or Nué technique was developed during the dawn of the Renaissance as a way for needleworkers to embrace new artistic and philosophical art reforms. While the design approach has changed dramatically in the ensuing centuries, the technique and elements have not. Join Natalie for a discussion of what is and isn’t Or Nué and the various factors that define effective design and proper technique.
Patricia Goaley: “Critiquing Art 101: How the Art Critics View Art” This lecture reduces one semester of Art 101 to a one-hour summary of the methods art critics use to assess a work of art. We will review the methods and apply them to various pieces of art. All fiber artists looking to break through the barriers of the art world will find this lecture enlightening.
Arata Tamura: “The Tradition and Transition of Japanese Embroidery” During the history of 1600 years, what has happened to Japanese Embroidery? Join Arata to unravel the history and understand how it evolved and heightened to the stage of becoming an art form. The contrast of developing and nurturing traditional influences and culture while challenged with the recent epidemic and world turmoil will be examined.
Laura Smith: “Dissolve, Sparkle, ad Crunch: Creating Texture with Mixed Media” Join Laura for a motivating hour with over fifty examples of mixed media work in various techniques. You will learn the pitfalls of mixing various techniques with textiles, and pointers for designing with mixed media guaranteed to improve your results.
Fee: $35

2022 International Teacher Tour
EGA National Seminar 2022: Broadway Bound is excited to announce our traveling tour starring international teachers:
Hazel Blomkamp from South Africa and Jane Nicholas from Australia
We are pleased that so many chapters who requested a teacher were granted their request, resulting in an ambitious schedule for each of the teachers. In addition to seminar week in New York City, Hazel has agreed to teach in 8 locations, and Jane will also teach in 8 locations. The benefit to chapters/regions hosting a venue is that the shared travel and visa costs are kept to a minimum, and we are able to offer a generous education opportunity for EGA members to participate in workshops with international teachers.
To view the dates, location, and projects for each teacher, click on the link below.
