Registration Closing Soon: Snow Day with Terri Bay, a Beautiful Hardanger Piece

Registration for our Online Studio class Snow Day with Terri Bay closes on October 1, 2025!

Snow Day is level 4 of the Snow Hardanger Series. It is a seven inch square doily intermediate/advanced level class full of stitches and techniques to learn. Some of the stitches included are: satin, Kloster, ship, eyeleys, blanket, needleweaving, dove’s eyes, double cable, detached buttonhole, wrapped bars, and the ever popular lacy edge. Snow Day is worked on 28 count linen with two sizes of pearl cotton.

Registration closes on October 1, 2025. The PDF lessons and videos will be posted every other week starting December 3, 2025 through February 11, 2026.

Here’s a quick rundown of how our online studio classes work:  Following the class schedule, students get access to the class content and to a class discussion forum where the teacher will answer students’ questions and where students can post photos of their progress and communicate with each other. PDF lessons can be downloaded at any time up to two months after the last lesson is posted.  Please check the details for each class to see if the class format will include video instruction.

Lightning Rounds

Every quarter, our Education Department selects some of our Group Correspondence Courses(GCC) and these are made available for members to register individually without needing a group. These correspondence courses are a great opportunity for members-at-large or chapter members who have been wanting to try one of these group courses and haven’t been able to. There is not an online component to these courses. There are no refunds for course or text fees so make your selection carefully. Learn more about Lightning Rounds

Fall Colors, A Study in Rozashi with Margaret Kinsey

Papillon with Adrienne G. Meyer

Papillon Counted Thread Class

Papillon is an introductory course on filet embroidery. In this 5-lesson course participants will learn briefly about the history of filet work. With needle and thread in hand, students will surround a square with satin and four-sided stitches on 30-count linen. They will then create a new grid by cutting and withdrawing threads and overcasting the remaining threads. Participants will learn the point de reprise or darning stitch to create a butterfly (papillon). They will also learn tips and techniques for cross-stitching a favorite verse over one thread – one of the teacher’s favorite verses or a verse of their own. Students will also learn to finish the edge of the linen with hemstitch or Nun stitch. Learn More and Register!

Reticello Needle Book with Jonalene Gutwein

This course is the next step for the experienced drawn thread enthusiasts who wish to begin learning the technique of reticello. It incorporates the pulled 4-sided stitch, the cutting of threads in both directions, satin stitched edges, and needle weaving. Reticello Needle Book starts you in the direction of needle lace. Additional stitches used are blanket stitched arcs with or without circle picots, creating blanket stitched initials, and many variations of arcs, bars, and combinations of these stitches. Star-Spangled Puzzle Ball with Denise Harrington Pratt

Star-Spangled Puzzle Ball offers the stitcher the opportunity to discover the joy of taking counted thread embroidery into three dimensions by creating a “puzzle ball.” The ball is constructed of pentagon and triangle components. The student will experience the art of counted thread embroidery by stitching the components in a variety of counted thread stitches. Some of the stitches are kite eyelet, two-sided insertion stitch, Nova stitch, leviathan star stitch, and many more. Learn More and Register!

Taming the Stash Monster Class

Get your needlework stash under control with Taming the Stash Monster! Is the Stash Monster taking over your closet, room… house? Do you feel stalled with a box full of UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) and a stash of beautiful projects, threads, canvases, fabrics, beads, and more? First, define your preferences so that you can decide what YOU want to keep in your stash (and what you can remove). Three ways of clearing your stash are given, depending on how much stash you need to remove. Resources are provided for donating or selling eliminated items. You’ll learn the requirements for archival storage, ways to prevent or solve stash problems such as insects, mildew, and fading. This course will help you develop a purchasing strategy and an uncomplicated, easy-to-maintain inventory system. Learn More and Register!
