The Laurel Chapter

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America is involved in numerous projects which benefit various organizations in the greater Hendersonville, NC area.

During the year chapter members create and donate hand stitched bookmarks, which are given to the literacy program at the Hendersonville Public library. This has been an annual outreach project for the past 10 years. To date the chapter has donated over 1500 bookmarks.

Starting in 2005, the chapter has continued an annual outreach to the Western North Carolina Chapter of Project Linus. Approximately 450 no-sew fleece blankets have been donated over this time period. These donated blankets are a “blanket hug” for children in crisis situations from newborns to teenagers.

This autumn chapter members are stitching special holiday cards to give to the local Meals on Wheels organization for their 275 clients. In addition, chapter members donate food, clothing, and money to the Interfaith Ministries in Hendersonville at their annual holiday party.

The Laurel Chapter held a public Stitch-In at the Hendersonville Welcome Center on Saturday, September 12. The chapter members set up a extensive gallery of embroidered pieces for display. Visitors to the Welcome Center interacted with chapter members asking questions about the various needle art projects.
