I have since taught myself different techniques and also learned from some skilled masters. I’ve been teaching bead embroidery since 2016 at my local bead store, and across the country at bead societies, retreats, shops and on Zoom. 208 Temari Ball
Taught by Bonnie Heidler (view bio)I started my stitching journey when I was seven years old. I made my first crewel pillow. From there I embroidered pillowcases and towels, as that was all the rage, as well as doing cross-stitch. When I was 14, I went to a needlepoint store and bought my first needle point piece. I fell in love with needlepoint. I ended up working in a needlepoint store when I was in college where I taught needlepoint to customers. I taught needlepoint for three years in the store. In 1996, I learned to bead when my husband and I moved from Los Angeles to Colorado Springs. Two years later, I opened a bead store where I brought in nationally and internationally known teachers. Every week I taught various bead classes for eight years. I closed the store in 2006 and moved to Prescott Valley, AZ. I joined a bead group and ended up teaching a few classes a year. When I first opened my store, EGA had just added beading as part of the class roster. I had wanted to join then, but I was working full-time in Corporate America and opening my bead store. There just wasn’t time. Twenty-six years later, I joined EGA. I currently am the President of the Tucson Chapter.

What are some new products that are useful for design transfer? Are there any products to avoid? How can you avoid having marks peek out from behind the stitches? 109 Southwestern Seam Ripper & Awl: Introduction to Peyote Stitch
Taught by Shawn Brown (view bio)I am a retired engineer with a minor in literature. I love beads. To me, they are like tiny Legos, with infinite possibilities for creating wonderful objects. My favorite part of beading is that, while you are stitching the beads together, there is no room in that tiny hole for anything but thread – no bills, no running to-do list in your brain, no worries about life in general – just thread and the meditative peace of creating cool stuff! I am detail oriented, extremely patient, and I approach teaching with the idea of sharing not only my skills but also inspiring the love of beading in my students.

110 Lacing to Finishing
Taught by Michelle Ripley Wood (view bio)My love for embroidery began at the age of 7 when I asked my grandmother to teach me. After giving my solemn promise to not stab my brothers with my needle, my embroidery journey began. I paused during my teens and took up cross stitch in my early 20s. I haven’t put down a needle and thread in the 40 years since. I love to give my embroidery work as gifts which has led me to learn different methods of finishing projects such as lacing and sewing draw bags and pin cushions. While I taught middle school for five years, my journey with teaching embroidery began in 2025 when I taught a lesson to our chapter to finish a nametag.
September 17, 2027 | 8:30 am to 4:30 pmTucson, AZLacing techniques will be taught on the students’ stitched projects of choice. Final product will be a no glue flat fold item for display. 502 Tucson
Taught by Holly Bean (view bio)I come from an artistic family. My mother was an accomplished basket weaver and needle point artist. Her animal needle point designs were my inspiration in creating animals with seed beads. I began my beading journey 30 years ago; bead weaving fringe earrings for a local store. I put beading away for a time while I raised my two sons and developed my 20 year career with the YMCA. In 2014, I discovered bead embroidery; my passion for design ignited. I have since taught myself different techniques and also learned from some skilled masters. I’ve been teaching bead embroidery since 2016 at my local bead store, and across the country at bead societies, retreats, shops and on Zoom. I never want to stop learning and creating; I feel so fortunate to be able to create and inspire from my home studio in Virginia.
