If you find that the double strand Madeira thread is tangling too much, I would recommend to switch over to a single strand. It will be much easier and quicker to stitch. I have stitched one below to show you. The wing looks delicate and pretty as well. See below:

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for sharing! Yes it would be very difficult without the hands free setup. I’m exploring some thread alternatives. For now though, I have also stitched another butterfly with a single strand of Madeira Metallics thread, see below. The wing actually looks more delicate with it, the effect is nice and will recommend it as mos…[Read more]

I generally like stem stitch but the metallic thread and very fine fabric certainly adds more of a challenge. It is very helpful to have the hoop on a stand that leaves both hands free.

You’re welcome! It’s understandable, my embroidering instincts would also tell me to stitch those lines 🙂
I’m sorry for the confusion also. This is the first time running this class so trying to be very responsive to help all the students along!
How was the stem stitch overall for you?

Suzanne Smith replied to the topic Wing question in the forum Forum: Butterfly Greeting Card 2 years, 11 months ago
Thanks Connie. That makes sense so since I’ve already drawn the lines I’m committed to cover them with sequins if I don’t stitch them.I’m impressed with how quickly you respond to questions. That s very helpful.

Hi Suzanne,
Great question! Sorry for the confusion, I should have explained a little more in the video and will update it. Depending on how you would like your butterfly to look, it is up to you which ones you want to stitch. So the bottom line in the upper wing and the line omitted in the lower wing are both optional.
In the video, I did no…[Read more]

In the video for the upper and lower wing in lesson one, one of the straight lines in each section was not stitched. Are we to not stitch the bottom line in the upper wing and one of the lines in the lower?

Hi Jennifer!
So glad to that you are enjoying the class! And that you are a brand new stitcher!!! I’m new as of three years ago and it has been a wonderful hobby and crowd of people! How did you come across embroidery?

Hi Connie! Really enjoying the class so far. I’m a brand new stitcher and so moving very slowly– I’m still working on the first butterfly stem stitching. In one of the videos you said that if we are new to stem stitching, one of the most important things to pay attention to is how we are doing our pinpoint stitches. Can you elaborate on that? Is…[Read more]

Hi Jo Ann,
You’re welcome!! I am glad that they help. This is my first time running this class, so my hope is to help everyone to finish a card.
Also, Susan in the forum mentioned double stranded stem stitch was tangling easily. If you run into that, you can also try with a single strand to begin with. Butterfly wings are delicate in rea…[Read more]

You’re welcome! And sorry for the late reply…I was trying to put together a photo of all the sequins I collected while developing this butterfly design, so if there’s ever a color or size you’d like some samples of, I might have some. I’ll try to get a photo up later today or tomorrow.
This web shop also has the 5mm Cupped French sequins in o…[Read more]

Hi Laura!
It’s great to hear you got the package! The USPS packet contains the missing felt sheet for the kit that was sent via FedEx. I didn’t have any felt on hand when the kit was sent out so it ended up being sent out separately. If you would like another kit though, just let me know.
You’re welcome! And glad to hear you can get sta…[Read more]

Hi Kathleen,
Glad the kit arrived!! And it’s so nice to hear you both get together! Do you know each other through EGA?
Yes, in the future I can send packages to you or Laura.
Absolutely! Which kit would you like?

Oops! I thought I had posted when I finished my box, but I don’t see it so I guess I oopsed!
I was very pleased with how the box turned out, it was a bit easier than expected, especially once I got the hang of the circular needle. I have since used that needle on other projects, which made them much easier to finish.
Thanks, Sarah, for the…[Read more]

Good morning Connie,
My kit just arrived and I’m busy printing the directions.
If you’d like, you can send everything to either Laura or I.
We live in the same city and see each other regularly.Would it be possible to get another kit so that I can make more
of these beautiful butterflies?
Yours truly,
