Description
Join Barbara Kershaw in Daydreams, a correspondence course focused on Schwalm embroidery, a beautiful form of German whitework embroidery traditionally worked on an off white evenweave linen with white thread. Techniques include some surface embroidery, drawn threadwork, pulled threadwork and hemstitching. The basic stitches used are coral knot, satin stitch, chain stitch, blanket stitch and four-sided stitch. The most commonly used motifs such as hearts, tulips and doves are outlined in coral knot and chain stitch before some of the threads are cut and withdrawn. The grid of remaining threads are then filled with a variety of pulled thread stitches to form lacy patterns. Needlelace circles are also an integral design element. Drawn thread hemstitching is often part of the overall design.
The design was created as a pillow but can easily be adapted as the centre of a table runner or doily. Alternatively the design can be framed.
