We have some wonderful embroidery to share as part of this year’s Fiber Forum!
The purpose of Fiber Forum is to promote and advance embroidery as an art form through the exhibition of original works. Every year, new members are juried into Fiber Forum by academics and professional artists who are active in their field on the basis of both aesthetic achievement and technical skill. The main requirement is that a needle and thread are involved in the creation of the piece. If you are a needle artist and would like to be part of Fiber Forum, you can learn more here.
We have published a gallery showcasing the stunning work, some of which you can see below. Visit the gallery for a closer look!
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore Dome by Francis Berthiaume

Artist statement: I produce embroidered textile works in a process of reflection on human social power. Through culture and architecture, I juxtapose the two elements in embroidery for their positive influence through my gaze. To transform the sadness of our social observations into beauty. This work is the result of a search for materials: Juxtaposing the lightness of glitter with the nobility of wood. I made my wooden sequins and added a noble and brilliant sky to the symbolic force of the dome.
Pomegranate by Cynthia Love

Artist statement: As a color study, this original piece explores value and complimentary contrast. Although simple, the image has a natural movement, intriguing textures, and a sense of drama. Saturation levels in the seeds add a layered look, pushing some seeds further back while bringing others to the foreground. The dimensional aspect of the seeds was accomplished with a padded satin stitch. Contrasting textures within each plane helps define and add interest to each section.
Day in Eden: Beachside by Marilu Morency

Photographed by: Ben Swenson
Artist statement: I have a continued passion to illustrate thoughts with needle and thread. Inspired by my Southern California surroundings, Day in Eden: Beachside exemplifies ‘Eden’ meaning “place of pleasure and delight; pristine, abundant, natural beauty.” A beauty matched by that of the colorful silk strips that were at my fingertips. I challenged myself to create a scene by arranging strips of silk, which would conjure the sense of freedom and mystique that being beachside offers. To achieve this, I added a seagull in flight and left to the imagination of the viewer the whereabouts and wanderings of the two surfboard owners.
