We are excited to announce a new addition to our roster of Individual Correspondence Courses: Freestyle Hoop Embroidery with J. Marsha Michler.
Freestyle Hoop Embroidery is a six-lesson Individual Correspondence Course for the embroiderer who wishes to go beyond following patterns. The student will learn ways to approach pattern-free surface embroidery for doing exploratory, creative work. Each lesson will require at least one embroidered project.
Freestyle embroidery is pattern-free surface embroidery for doing exploratory, creative work. It’s a great way to expand your stitch vocabulary, try out stitch ideas, explore color combinations (the course does not teach color, which you may explore on your own), and play with design ideas.

future works.
This ICC is an art class for surface embroidery. It introduces a variety of stitchways and shows how to use them in forming designs. Using stitches in a linear pattern, for instance, comes out much differently than solid fillers. You will receive direction in how to form patterns on fabric that are unique to the types of stitches used. By the end of the course you will be able to further your explorations with the stitchways of your choice. This is an opportunity to strengthen your design and stitch skills!

Individual Correspondence Courses offer EGA members intense, personalized study under the supervision of teachers selected for their outstanding needlework skills and knowledge. The courses are in-depth study programs dealing with a wide range of embroidery techniques and disciplines at various skill levels. They are a perfect complement to workshop classes, group study courses, and lectures. ICC’s are often used as a jumping board for our Master Craftsman programs, or our Teaching and Judging Certification programs.
