I think the finishing might be interesting with the ‘twining’ around the edges. Have you got Jacqui Carey’s books on sweet bags with all that info in?

You could try blending. I.e do 3 rows of dark , 1 row med, 1 row dark then medium, although there is not much room and you should do more alternate rows for it to be effective. Absolutely you can do the “fingered” transitions between rows to make it look like grass growing!
