Description

Hearts for You with Denise Harrington Pratt is an opportunity for the student to learn a variety of finishing techniques for use with counted thread work and to create a lovely four-piece set of needlework accoutrements. The counted thread embroidery in the pieces is basic, using cross stitch, backstitch, and attached beads. This is so students can focus on the finishing techniques once the embroidery is completed.

Many stitchers feel hesitant to attempt items that require finishing or construction, and the purpose of this class is to help students develop the skills and the confidence to delve into this fascinating area of needlework. This class will open the door to the wonderful world of needlework finishing where all manner of stitched items can be constructed into useful and beautiful three-dimensional items.

This class begins with the pinkeep, the simplest of the set. The student will learn how to create a circular piece, and how to put the pinkeep together. The second piece is a needlebook and the finishing techniques are completely different on this piece, including creating the spine and constructing the needlebook using reverse chain and a lacing technique. The third piece is a scissors fob. In this piece the students expand their skills with the reverse chain and lacing by working on a curve. How to construct a piece with an inside corner is also learned. The last piece, the scissors keeper, is the most complex and students will learn a variety of construction techniques completing this final piece. These four pieces give the stitching enthusiast a good introduction into a variety of finishing techniques for counted thread embroidery.

This course has lots of detail, lots of photos, and lots of tips to help each student gain new skills and add new techniques to their needlework repertoire. Come and join us, won’t you?
