Explorations… A Step Beyond
The EGA Explorations… A Step Beyond program presents members with opportunities to learn about embroidery in greater depth, both in-person and virtual. The Explorations program is a technical deep dive program into a particular form of embroidery – such as Ukrainian, Japanese, Hungarian embroidery, etc. Other programs might focus on a specific technique, for instance deepening the student’s expertise in long and short stitch, or exploring how Burden stitch is executed across crewel, surface, canvas, and goldwork embroidery. Other Explorations might highlight finishing techniques, color theory, drafting or design for needlework. The possibilities are endless!
The Explorations…A Step Beyond will strive to offer one to two programs to EGA members per calendar year, either virtually or in-person.
The Virtual Explorations…A Step Beyond Program
Description:
• Will be delivered via Zoom.
• Will be instructor-led, in a multi-module format.
• Will typically not be project-based – will be more akin to a notebook class. However, it may be focused around a design in order to convey appropriate teaching points.
• Number of sessions not set – would depend on the topic being presented.
• Sessions will be recorded and available for student review.
• Assignments, discussions, feedback will be made available in EGA’s online forums.
Program Benefits:
• Students have live interaction with an instructor and fellow students.
• Students can review material at their leisure, and/or make up a session on their own time if they were not able to attend a particular session.
• Instructor feedback and the social interaction be supplemented by EGA forum discussions, or other social media interaction, or by emailing photos to instructors.
• There is less impact on working members’ time than in-person courses.
• Due to lower overhead and associated costs, class minimums are easier to reach, thus there is less likelihood of event cancellation.
• Ability to integrate and design program offerings into the Master Craftsman (MC) modules/lessons, thus giving MC students more opportunities to fulfill program requirements.
