Queen Catherine Parr was a beautiful widow when King Henry VIII decided that she would be a perfect sixth wife for him. While you stitch your blackwork pieces, you will learn about the woman who was not only passionate, but intelligent enough to survive Henry.
The project set comprises a tasseled, silk-lined bag with different historical designs on each side; a ribbon-tied, book-shaped box that fits inside the bag; and a pin cushion known as a pyn pillow. The pieces are stitched on one side with the traditional black that gives blackwork its name, accented with gold and silver threads and paillettes. You can stitch the other side with red and green silk, your own color combination, or not at all.
