Welcome to the discussion group, Jennifer and Bonnie! Please use whatever hoop size feels comfortable to you. There are no strict rules!

The discussion group stays open until the 26th of December. Things may become quiet here, but I will be checking for postings every day until then.

    Jennifer,

I have been using a 9″ hoop (just happened to have a good one at home), and it is definitely easier to stitch when you have free space outside the stitching area. You will have to use a bigger piece of fabric, though. Then, when finished, the work is easily moved to a 6″ hoop for display.

If I recall correctly, the materials will stay…[Read more]

This is my work so far, lesson 2 is finished. I am planning to do the background next, with lighter colors. That should cover the drawing line that is visible (I used an iron-off, wash-off pen, but it did not disappear when I ironed it today). I also plan to add some embellishments to make a “stronger” statement. This is really a fun project!

Hi everyone, wonderful to see the beautiful work everyone has done! I’m amazed at the colors and variety, which is helpful to see and gives me ideas. I haven’t had much time to get started on this project, but still hope to get to it soon. I have two questions.

    1) It seems to me like it would be easier to embroider if the circle is smaller than…[Read more]

I’ve had to move through from Lesson 1 to Lesson 2 without finishing Lesson 1 first. Of course, I will go back and do more because I am absolutely loving this course! To explain thus far, and then a question:

I’ve tried to pull in the tan color from the line drawing into the circle by doing a little bit of simple weaving within the blanket…[Read more]

I hope you are thinking of a next project! i gave some alternative examples of this project above. Here are two more. They show the project worked in monotones. The brown one shows another way to form the bands of stitching.

    Susan,

I must agree with our wonderful teacher. The colors are absolutely fantastic! Not too many colors, but scattered throughout the work creates an eloquent work of art.

Wow, Susan – that is striking! Great job, you have made good use of the space. The stitches and colors are pure eye candy! The color scheme makes me think of Southwestern art, turquoise jewelry and so on.

Anneli, that is not the best reason for learning embroidery but you certainly learned it well.  I hope your husband is recovered, that is a long time to be in the hospital & rehab.  I have taken a lot of classes through EGA and learned  from each one.  And from both the teacher and the other participants.  I think the online classes are a huge…[Read more]

Tracy, I am glad you liked my suggestion.  Chain stitch would be one of my choices but I think I am going to try buttonhole for my next one.  It is one I have a more difficult time doing so it would be a good learning one for me.  I am on vacation right now so I haven’t finished my circles yet but plan to after I get home.  I have done most of the…[Read more]

I’m a little behind because I was on vacation. I love seeing everyone’s colors and stitches. I’m hoping to catch up this weekend and post some new pictures.
