Thanks Pat! I can make those corrections. A great way to jump into painting is to simply draw a form on a scrap of linen and play around with the paints on it. Kind of like what was done in the video. You will be amazed at how nice the paints stay in place. Good luck!

I am avoiding the painting —  not an artist!!  I have worked ahead on the back cover stitching.  On the chart for the back cover,  the center oval where the “Journal of…” goes is not the same length from the center to the ends.  The left side is shorter.  With your directions for people to center their name first maybe people would not get c…[Read more]

    Nkki,

I love that fabric combination, I think it looks really smart! Your lines are a little wobbly, but the stitches for them can be done thinner or fatter to cover any wobbles.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah

Dawn,   I am doing the last Area    (area 3)

You have an upright cross in the “open areas”

the picture seems to show pink stitches in that area.

Does it matter which we do?

    thanks

    Hi Sarah,

I completed the inner box and monogram/wreath transfer and photo is attached.  My fabric is different as I did not order the kit.  The wreath/monogram transfer  took a couple of tries until I was relatively happy with the outcome. Your videos and instructions are excellent!!

    Thank you.

Hi Beverly, sorry you are having problems. It might have something to do with your printer. If you are still having problems, send the PDF to someone like Office Depot and have them print it; they might get a better result.

    Hi All,

I’ve just found an error in the Outer Box Calculator – it was giving the incorrect height measurements for the outer box – my apologies.

The base height should be 59mm not 57 – this is correct in the pdf instructions, but apparently I got confused when writing the calculator.

I have corrected and asked Rand to upload the corrected…[Read more]

I don’t have a height on the outer base but the depth on the table is 57cm. Is that the measurement I should change?

    Hi Alison,

You are very welcome to use a slate frame, you’ll jest need to replace the calico in the kit with something similar that is big enough to frame up in your slate frame.

Usually I frame up my base fabric and leave the fabric quite loose before pinning on my outer fabric (tight) and stitching on (herringbone or long and short), and…[Read more]

    Hi Florance,

The tops of the inner and outer boxes should be level, and the inner box measurement should be 137 long, 57 wide and 57 high.

I’ve just reaslied there is an error in my Outer box calculator, so I’verecualtlated for you (and ill get the correct one uploaded)

    So with 140mm x 61 x 56, you’ll need:

Thank you for the corrected chart for page 9.  I downloaded the file, saved it, then opened it to print.  Every graph on p.9-11 have some grid lines missing.  I will have to draw them in by hand so I can do the counting.  byw, the same problem appears when I print directly from the pdf file before downloading it.

I started the basting, so I’l…[Read more]

    Hi Sarah,

First, I am absolutely loving this class!  I think I’ve figured out Christmas gifts for several family members – these beautiful boxes with something small inside (not macarons!).

Are the tops of the inner and outer boxes perfectly even or is the outer box slightly higher than the inner box?

Do you have a photo of the underside of the lid? Is the inner lid slightly more narrow and shorter than the outer lid?

    Hi all,

Just thought I’d add a tip here for the lacing method for the card. It can feel like you need an extra pair of hands for lacing the fabric to the card, but start slowly and pull firmly and evenly on the thread to tighten it. If it snaps, don’t worry, just go back a couple of stitches, finish off the thread and start a new one. If it kee…[Read more]

    Hi Lynette,

That’s a great question! I tend to use felt for my padding for boxes as it is easy to cut accurately to fit my card shapes perfectly – especially when I need to cut it a little smaller than the card piece to allow for where another piece of card will join to it (so my ‘seam allowance’ for the card pieces is always the same rathe…[Read more]

I am working on the box with another chapter member and we were wondering why you chose to use felt rather than quilt batting for the padding of the inside portion of the box. We both have completed our inside boxes and were pleased with how they came out.
