It make perfect sense. Thank you, I think I am going to test out the add one option and see how it works. I like the style of the belly and the down stroke full.

Nikki,
My tip for tracing on a light box is to put your fabric into your hoop upside down – so that the design is on the inside of the hoop, and pull the fabric tight. Then you can place the hoop over the light box with the fabric flat against it and trace.
Usually what happens when you stick the fabric down is that because the fabric is not…[Read more]

Joanne,
I don’t think there would be an issue with putting beeswax on the lacing threads, I use beeswax on the Gutermann Sew-All threads all the time for Goldwork and other than it changing the colour slightly it has no bad effects that I can think of for the lacing!
I might be a bit cautious about using wax for the ladder stitching as there is…[Read more]

Hi Denise,
With ‘standard’ trailing it is difficult to copy the font entirely – you could choose to have the thicker point either on the belly or the down stroke.
However you can cheat with trailing and make it thicker, but it can be a but fiddly (might be something to sample first if you want to try it). You can add in core threads again by…[Read more]

Hi Gail,
Happy to pop some extra needles in the post to you! They may take a little time to arrive as the UK post office is having issues with International Postage at the moment, but I think letter sized parcels are now going through.
For reference the needles are Curved Beading Needles made by John James (where I source all my…[Read more]

I have chosen a D for my monogram. The directions for that letter shows the fat or beginning would be on the inside down stroke, however the belly of the D also looks full. How is this to be stitched?
Thank you,
Denise P.

Is it at all possible to get additional curved needles. I’m almost done putting my box together but broke the second needle. I have looked on line and can not find any as fine as the ones we were provided with. Thank you.

Hi Sarah
Is using beeswax on the lacing thread to help manage it OK? I have used it for other applications but don’t wnat to start it if there is a problem.

Thank you for your feedback Sarah. I transferred my monogram and wreath using a light box. Even though I taped the fabric down before tracing, the fabric still slipped, this probably explains the wobbly lines. Do you have any tips on how to keep the fabric steady on a light box
I think I might give the tracing another go.

Hi, I am unable to print pages 12 and 13 of Lesson 2. I have tried it several different ways and I keep getting a message that “an error occurred while printing”. Please advise. Thank you. Betsy

Hi Terri,
That’s a tricky one! if you think that the bulk will flatten out when you add the outer box (if it flattens under pressure) then no you don’t need to adjust. If the bulk is quite dense or folded then you will need to add an extra 1mm to the measurement.
I’d be tempted to add the extra, and hold against the inner box to see what it…[Read more]

Florance,
It seems the link I shared is set as read only, which is why you can’t enter the figures into column B. However, the Lesson documents have been updated with the corrected sheet, which you should be able to download and edit. The sheet is protected so you can only enter numbers into Cells B4:6.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Thank you Sarah for recalculating the dimension of my mat board for my outer box and I will cut it as you have instructed me.
I do not understand how your Outer Box Calculator is supposed to work. I tried to type my actual inner box outside measurements into column “C”, lines 4, 5 and 6 but the chart does not allow me to enter the figures.

Hi everyone, I owe you all a huge apology. Each lesson should have included lecture notes from me. I think I thought I sent them onto EGA, but I didn’t and I just now realized it today.
I can’t get them to you today as I am out of the country, but will do so at the latest Sunday morning.
Again, I apologize and hope you are enjoying the class so…[Read more]

Hi Mary, yes, lay all of the colors for the pink first, laying the horizontal one first, then the vertical one on top of that. And, yes, there are only the 7 diagonal stitches.

There is an Upright Cross Stitch in the open areas. Use 1 strand of the purple pearl cotton.

Area 9, Battlement Couching, questions
Hi Dawn. When stitching Battlement, am I supposed to lay all 4 colors of thread horizontally (in 2 groups), then go vertically with all 4 (in 2 groups(? Or do I lay horizontal pink, then vertical pink, switch to the next color, going horizontal and vertical? And, are there only 7 diagonal stitches, or does…[Read more]

Hi, Sarah,
In measuring the inner box, I assume I should take into account the little added bulk at the corners where the fabric folds? I have a corner or two where I didn’t get the fold quite as flat as I did on the others, so the fabric causes my measurement on that edge to be slightly outside the 1mm tolerance at the corner. I should ad…[Read more]
