Sarah de Rousset-Hall replied to the topic Outer box complete. Question on monogram in the forum Forum: Box Making: Parisian Patisserie 3 years ago

The dots at the end are tricky to include, and to do neatly, but it can be done.

It is possible to re-widen trailing by adding in more threads again from underneath. However, this is really tricky to do just for the dots, as it is difficult to get enough stitches over the new core threads to secure them.

What I would suggest instead (and I…[Read more]

Am I correct that the dots at the end are not stitched?  It would add a lot to the monogram to have them.

    Thanks, Judy Abbott

    Hi Marty,

It is short but you have a couple of options for the reductions.

First of all however, I would recommend completing the longer side first, so that as you do the quick reductions, the core threads are nice and secure so you don’t need to worry about accidentally pulling them out.

Then your can either reduce by 2 every couple of s…[Read more]

On your reply toe “Outer box complete. Question on Monogram”:  On the letter M to the right of number 1….that seems like an awfully short distance from the thickest to reduce from 14 threads down to two.  You could barely make a stitch or two before making a reduction.  Please advise.

    Thanks

Hi Mary, the long threads creating Battlement Couching are not individually couched. The actual couching happens only at the very end and there are only 7 of those.  See the graph on page 10. The pink diagonal lines are the couching stitches.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Thanks

Joanne, I’m intrigued by your question on making macarons for our boxes. I’ve been googling:

This is a $10 sewing pattern, you’d probably have to adjust the size on this to make it fit the box https://www.etsy.com/listing/111622938/macaron-mercerie-sewing-accessories-pdf?gpla=1&gao=1&

    Hi Sarah,

I am enjoying the challenge of making this box and have learned a great deal-many thanks.

I do have a question: Is it possible to purchase a kit or at least the instructions for making the “macarons” that go into the box? I would dearly love to be able to “complete” this project in that way.

    Hi Julia,

Thanks for sharing your work! Your top edging looks to be about 23 threads above the lettering. It should be 15. This is a difference of about 8 threads or 1/4″ which would have been added at the bottom, making the waves fit within the design area; however, the journal, your stitching, and painting are all wonderful!

    I will let Solveig…[Read more]

This was a great class. I would recommend for an in person class to have students bring counting pins and basting thread as I found it a great help. I also recommend basting a bottom line because I painted too far into the fringe in places. Thank you for allowing me to pilot the class. Would you like me/us from sharing our pictures online or with…[Read more]
