Terri,
We’ll done! Your box looks great – in particular your mitred corners on the inside of your box look really nicely worked, with very little bulk appearing.
The joining on the oval is tricky, but if I didn’t know where I’d told you to join it it would take me a good moment to spot (and I have an eye for this) – we always judge ourse…[Read more]

Hi Nancy,
I think the straight lines look nicest when they do not taper like the others (but this is an aesthetic choice not a technical one!). I’d suggest trying with about 6 core perle threads, which will make them small, but not tiny. You may want to sample a few different thickness before you commit, just to check what it will look l…[Read more]

I am new to box making and monograming, so this project has been a great learning experience.
I am ready to do my monogram of an N. I see how the threads are gradated for curved lines, but what do I do with my three staight lines? I see little curls at the bottom of the left stroke and at the top of the right stroke. Are those lines su…[Read more]

Joanne, don’t feel badly about taking extra time to make a correction. I have literally not even started yet, so you are well in advance of me!

Sorry to say I have to redo the outside of the box. I measured and it came up at the size in the pattern, but because of the bulk of the fabric on the corners of the inside box it was just about 1 mm too small when I got to the last panel. I have already taken it apart and will recut the board for the pieces.
“Thank You Sarah” for adding the…[Read more]

I finished up tonight and am very glad to have had the opportunity to take this class. I’d been interested in making a box for a while, and the class was just the incentive I needed to actually give it a try. I hadn’t done any whitework before, either, so that was also fun. I’m happy with my “T”; the oval, well, it’ll take some practice. &…[Read more]

Virginia,
This looks fabulous! The idea of adding a cord and a button loop is great, ! the stitching of your monogram looks very smart and very neatly done and I can’t see the join in the outer circle either, so well done!
Best wishes,
Sarah

That curved needle and I have gone more than a few rounds, vying for control. Honestly I think the needle won out! But my box is finally complete. When I got the lid put together and put it on the box, the gap from the inner box being ever so slightly taller than the outer box became even more noticeable. You mentioned possible hinhing the top to…

Fran, that looks very splendid! Thanks for posting. Good thread tension, to my eye. Your colors show off the stitches nicely.

Question for Dawn: Since you first released Lesson One, curiosity has been eating at my mind. Where does Bokhara Stitch come from? I know some stitches, such as Smyrna Cross or Rhodes, are associated with an ancient city of the same name. I never heard of this stitch til taking your class, and I do think it’s a lovely effect that I will want to…[Read more]
