Hi Marty,
It’s really tricky to get trailing to follow the line drawn on and also keep it looking smooth with no wobbles, but your stitching over the top looks really smart.
Holding the core threads under tension as you stitch over them helps, but sometimes it’s down to the line drawn on the fabric – if you wobbled ever so slightly dra…[Read more]

Well, thanks for checking. It will have to stay a mystery for us. But I did think that was one of my favorites from your sampler.

I finished my box over the weekend! This workshop was most enjoyable and I learned so much, I am now more confident in building a box and using a curved needle and will try building another one. It also provided an opportunity to try out whitework that I have always shied away from. Next steps for me will be to get more practice with whi…[Read more]

In the two books I used as reference, I couldn’t find any mention on where the name came from. I did do some additional checking on the internet and didn’t find anything there either. The books are Carolyn Ambuter’s Even More Complete Book of Needlepoint and The Complete Stitch Encyclopedia.

Dear Dawn, I need to admit I have not started this project. I have all of the pages printed out and hope to get to it in the near future. Thank you for sharing this great design.

I’m amazed at how difficult perfection would be! It seems like it looks pretty good for a while and then it just doesn’t!~

Lynda,
Thanks for the feedback, I’m still getting used to having to watch myself back on videos to edit them, so I’m glad they have been appreciated. Aside from that, I really feel like I have the best job in the world!
Best wishes,
Sarah

Joanne,
I can’t tell you how many times I have thought I have measured perfectly, made up the pieces, and realised I’d have to redo them ! It is somewhat variable depending just how the blade went, or just how the fabric folded, so although there is a formula for calculating box piece sizes, it often needs a little adjustment – the problem wit…[Read more]

Terri,
We’ll done! Your box looks great – in particular your mitred corners on the inside of your box look really nicely worked, with very little bulk appearing.
The joining on the oval is tricky, but if I didn’t know where I’d told you to join it it would take me a good moment to spot (and I have an eye for this) – we always judge ourse…[Read more]

Hi Nancy,
I think the straight lines look nicest when they do not taper like the others (but this is an aesthetic choice not a technical one!). I’d suggest trying with about 6 core perle threads, which will make them small, but not tiny. You may want to sample a few different thickness before you commit, just to check what it will look l…[Read more]

I am new to box making and monograming, so this project has been a great learning experience.
I am ready to do my monogram of an N. I see how the threads are gradated for curved lines, but what do I do with my three staight lines? I see little curls at the bottom of the left stroke and at the top of the right stroke. Are those lines su…[Read more]
