ARTIST STATEMENT that should refer to the inspiration, challenge, or intent of your art rather than a description of technique or materials.
The old rhyme, “Red sky at morning, sailor take warning,” provides context and title for this work. Lighthouses, such as the St. Marks Lighthouse that is depicted in this work, are warnings to sailors. Incorporating various surfaces into this landscape was the major challenge: varied textures of leaves and other vegetation, smoothness of the water; reflections on the water, roughness of the stucco-surfaced tower, the undulating tile on the roof, and reeds peaking up through the water along the shoreline.Sailor Take Warning – Entry and Artist Statement
