Description
Daisy & Red Clover gives students a taste of stumpwork (raised and padded embroidery) in an easily completed size. Most embroidery is two-dimensional. Stumpwork moves into the third dimension by raising the embroidery above the surface of the ground fabric. The way the embroidery is raised is by stitch choice, padding, and detached elements.
Stumpwork is a very methodical type of embroidery. The detailed instructions in Daisy & Red Clover will take you through the steps in small, straight-forward increments. The most commonly encountered techniques in stumpwork are included: needle lace, detached element, and embroidery over felt padding. Whipped chain, padded satin and layered detached chain stitches continue the raised character of this type of surface embroidery. Tips on creating beautifully smooth satin stitch are included. Familiar surface stitches: outline, stem, French knot and detached chain (lazy daisy) complete the design.
