2027 Mid-Atlantic Region (MAR) Seminar Call for Proposals
The Hagerstown, Oatlands, and Washington DC chapters of the Mid-Atlantic Region (MAR) of the Embroiders’ Guild of America (EGA) will host the 2027 Mid-Atlantic Regional Seminar from 16 – 20 June 2027 at the Fair Oaks Marriott in Fairfax, VA.
The theme is Stitchers’ Great Escape. From now through January 30, 2026, we invite teachers to submit needlework teaching proposals that offer a range of techniques and various proficiency and skill levels.
In-person classes will take place between 16 and 20 June 2027. Proposals for in-person classes should consist of a minimum of 4 days and a maximum of 5 days of classes. These may include a combination of 1-day classes, 2-day classes, 3-day classes, or a 4-day class and a 1-day class. Contracts for in-person teaching will only be offered for 4 or 5 total teaching days.
Additionally, up to five 2- and 3-day equivalent classes will also be offered virtually via Zoom at dates and times to be determined within the 2027 calendar year after the conclusion of the in-person seminar.
Teachers may submit proposals for in-person classes, virtual classes, or both.
Due to resource limitations, we will only accept proposals of virtual classes from international teachers.
Proposals will be accepted for new courses, as well as for encore, or previously taught, material. The Faculty Selection Committee is looking for material to provide a range of offerings that will appeal to brand new stitchers to seasoned experts, from dedicated counted thread stitchers to surface stitchers. We are also looking for classes that will allow stitchers who may be wedded to one type of stitching to successfully dip their toes for a day into something completely new and unfamiliar.
Compensation includes:
- $450 for each full day of in-person teaching.
- $450 for each full day of virtual teaching or its equivalent
- Economy round-trip airfare, transportation/mileage to/from home and airport. Mileage will be calculated using Federal government reimbursement level, or economy airfare, whichever is less. If driving, the airfare cost at one month (30 days) out from time of travel will be used as a calculating factor.
- Accommodations (double occupancy)
- Per Diem of $65 per teaching day.
- Up to $100 for incidental expenses, such as airport parking.
- Two seminar banquets and a teacher reception will be included.
Each teaching proposal packet should include:
- 2027 MAR Seminar Proposal Item Submission Sheet (one total per proposal package)
- 2027 MAR Seminar Proposal Summary Sheet (one per proposed class)
- High quality photographs or drawings of each proposed piece
- Class description and goals of the class from the student’s perspective for each proposed class
- A list of supplies that students must bring with them for each proposed class
- Estimation of any pre-work required for each proposed class
- Description of kit, supplies or equipment provided by the instructor for each proposed class
- Kit price within 10-15% of final cost for each proposed class, to include all applicable tariffs
- A short teacher’s biography and summary of your past teaching history
- Further information on proposal requirements is described in the 2027 MAR Seminar Proposal Submission Guidelines
Please submit your full proposal no later than Friday, January 30, 2026. The proposal must be submitted electronically to Heather Keiko Long, 2027 MAR Region Seminar Dean of Faculty at 2027marseminarfaculty@gmail.com. The subject line should read: 2027 MAR Regional Seminar Proposal.
