Interesting Tree of Life.
-
Every culture on earth has a tree of life motif. Mine is not from any nationality, it’s a witches tree of life. Earth, Air, Fire and the Water of life, with a window to the universe and it’s stars. The Apples go from gold to purple across the arch of the sky. As Above, So Below, Blessed Be.

This is the first of twenty pieces I’m doing for a stumpwork double casket. (The four seasons double casket by Tricia Wilson Nguyen of Thistle Threads.) This will end up on the inside of the right-hand door.
Next up: a similar flower basket design for the inside of the left door. Like this one it will be done mostly in silk-wrapped…[Read more]

This is beautiful, Tim. On the INSIDE of the door???? Really!?!?!? Hard to hide something like this. Keep posting your progress— most of us are envious!
-
Well, something had to go on the inside. There are another 18 panels on the outside. Those will be needlelace and other common stumpwork techniques. I think Tricia decided to put the silk-wrapped purl designs on the inside to help protect them; if the purls are snagged they can easily be bent out of shape.
Here’s the link to the course page on…[Read more]

On Labor Day I finished my first stumpwork project, “Forest Floor” by Kay Dennis (from issue 104 of Inspirations magazine). It was a lot of fun, with a wide variety of techniques. (Needlelace, needle weaving, beads, etc.)
This is a very three-dimensional piece, somewhat difficult to capture in a still image.
-
I should note that the design is available for purchase in PDF format and last I checked the kits are still available too.
-
Very pretty. I am impress. I have so many inspiration magazine. Never attempted one. This give me encouragement to try.
-
Well done! It is beautiful!

I started this Eileen Bennett Flax sampler probably 25 years ago when my chapter had her come teach for us. Put it away and then, when EGA offered it as an online class, I was inspired to finish it. I really enjoyed finishing it and kept thinking, “Why did I put this away for so long?!” I am so glad to be able to say, “Ta-DAH!”
-
Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing, you have inspired me to look through my unfinished items to see if I can find a diamond in the rough!!
-
Vera, I remember you telling us about this. A very pretty piece!
-
That’s exciting! It’s a comfort to know I’m not alone in my slowness to complete some projects. It’s always encouraging to hear about an old piece being finished. I feel fueled to go back to work on… Hmmm…which one.. 😀
Since I’ve only been actively embroidering for about two years now most of my old UFO’s are garments, but in just two…[Read more]

I finally finished Elizabeth! I began her several years ago and finished the cross stitch over a year ago but could not get up the nerve to finish finishing her. When I did right after Christmas this year I found that it was not nearly as difficult as I had built up in my mind. Now I am obsessed and almost finished the cross stitch part of…[Read more]

That is beautiful! Was that a kit?
-
Thank you. It wasn’t a kit. The pattern was in Sampler & Antique Needlework magazine Summer 2014 issue and I bought the head from brierrose.com.
-
Irony. Vera, I started this project earlier in January. I’ve finished the embroidery for the doll; today, started the companion trunk. Assembly of both to follow. When the designs came out in 2012, Needle in a Haystack in Alameda,CA, kitted up the two pieces. Love the colors.
-
Are you going to make the tray and pincushion that go in the trunk? Guilia made the instructions for making them free on her website puntiantichi.com. I haven’t decided whether to make the trunk and I don’t remember what fabric I used for her skirt so that I could make them the same.

That finishing is not an easy task. It looks beautiful – Congrats on the finish!
