This jewel-encrusted Bumblebee is a stunning design, featuring a large crystal as its thorax. The project incorporates a range of traditional goldwork techniques, including padded goldwork, basketweave, chipping, and pearl purl, creating rich texture, depth, and visual interest.

During the workshop, you will learn a crowning technique for setting the jewel, alongside a variety of creative stitching methods, including Ayrshire-style padded flowers. The combination of goldwork and delicate floral elements provides a beautiful contrast, with the flowers forming an elegant backdrop to the striking Bumblebee.

This engaging project offers an excellent opportunity to develop and refine a wide range of embroidery skills while exploring several specialist techniques. The workshop is best suited to students who already have some previous stitching experience and are looking to expand their repertoire.

About Teacher Chrissie Juno Mann

Based in the heart of the New Forest, I have been stitching since I was a child. I have an MA in Conservation and Restoration of the Decorative Arts, which I follow by training at the Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court Palace as a specialist in the historical art of hand embroidery. I graduated with a distinction and I work as a tutor for the RSN.

These days, I primarily run my own embroidery business Cloud Juno. I work as a freelance embroiderer and tutor all over the country and abroad, creating my own designs for kits and running workshops and retreats. I have also developed a wonderful international online community of stitchers and teach regular zoom classes. I have published two books ’50 Blackwork Patterns: Book 1 & Book 2’, which have been very positively received and are available to purchase in various countries.

My personal aim is to encourage the art of hand embroidery making it accessible to all whilst fulfilling my own potential by capturing nature and the beauty of the world around us with my needle and thread.
