In the video for the upper and lower wing in lesson one, one of the straight lines in each section was not stitched. Are we to not stitch the bottom line in the upper wing and one of the lines in the lower?

Hi Jennifer!
So glad to that you are enjoying the class! And that you are a brand new stitcher!!! I’m new as of three years ago and it has been a wonderful hobby and crowd of people! How did you come across embroidery?
If you are finding that the double stranded metallic thread is tangling too often, you can also switch to a single st…[Read more]

Hi Connie! Really enjoying the class so far. I’m a brand new stitcher and so moving very slowly– I’m still working on the first butterfly stem stitching. In one of the videos you said that if we are new to stem stitching, one of the most important things to pay attention to is how we are doing our pinpoint stitches. Can you elaborate on that? Is…[Read more]

Hi Jo Ann,
You’re welcome!! I am glad that they help. This is my first time running this class, so my hope is to help everyone to finish a card.
Also, Susan in the forum mentioned double stranded stem stitch was tangling easily. If you run into that, you can also try with a single strand to begin with. Butterfly wings are delicate in rea…[Read more]

You’re welcome! And sorry for the late reply…I was trying to put together a photo of all the sequins I collected while developing this butterfly design, so if there’s ever a color or size you’d like some samples of, I might have some. I’ll try to get a photo up later today or tomorrow.
This web shop also has the 5mm Cupped French sequins in o…[Read more]

Hi Laura!
It’s great to hear you got the package! The USPS packet contains the missing felt sheet for the kit that was sent via FedEx. I didn’t have any felt on hand when the kit was sent out so it ended up being sent out separately. If you would like another kit though, just let me know.
You’re welcome! And glad to hear you can get sta…[Read more]

Hi Kathleen,
Glad the kit arrived!! And it’s so nice to hear you both get together! Do you know each other through EGA?
Yes, in the future I can send packages to you or Laura.
Absolutely! Which kit would you like?

Oops! I thought I had posted when I finished my box, but I don’t see it so I guess I oopsed!
I was very pleased with how the box turned out, it was a bit easier than expected, especially once I got the hang of the circular needle. I have since used that needle on other projects, which made them much easier to finish.
Thanks, Sarah, for the…[Read more]

Good morning Connie,
My kit just arrived and I’m busy printing the directions.
If you’d like, you can send everything to either Laura or I.
We live in the same city and see each other regularly.Would it be possible to get another kit so that I can make more
of these beautiful butterflies?
Yours truly,

Hi Connie,
I happened to have received both kits yesterday! One in the mail (USPS), and the other from Fed Ex. I’m happy to pay for the extra kit, if that can be arranged somehow. Maybe Rand can invoice me? Or I can pay you directly. Thank you so much for being on top of this. I’ll begin this afternoon!

This was an outstanding class, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to learn this skill, which I have been wanting to learn for a long time. The videos made this the best online class I have seen to date, by far. Thank you Sarah!
Now to make all those bits of embroidery lying around in drawers into boxes!

I am thinking about doing a more complex box for a new class, so watch this space!

Hello,
I have taken the Stem Stitch Videos and flipped them for left handed viewers. So what was originally posted starting the stem stitch on the right wing, it now starts on the left side. Keep in mind, the audio instructions are still the same as they were for the right side, so there might be some referral to the “right wing” but this is n…[Read more]

Also, when you get to stitching the center body, please be sure to also read my posts here (some points I forgot to make in the video lesson):

Regarding stitching the center body…
When you couch down the center body (with the coils across), be sure that you pull it snug to hold down the threads, but not so tight that the center body becomes too stiff. It should be that you can take your finger and press down on it, and it’ll depress a little. We need it like this, so that it’ll l…[Read more]
