Sashiko is a Japanese art form using needle and thread. It came to be out of necessity but now the quiet, contemplative techniques are for enjoyment as well as stitch diagrams. It is an art form that encourages a Zen-like state as you learn and create your piece or pieces. Learn to master the techniques as well as delve into the history of Sashiko on our three-lesson workshop.
You will receive instructions on preparing your fabrics and thread. You will also receive stitch diagrams for you to use in creating your design or designs. You might like to create a sampler of the different patterns and symbols of Sashiko stitching or perhaps you will want to take one pattern and create an all-over design on your fabric. We will work together on your ideas as well as have samples for you to follow.
We will discuss what you can create with your designs. Examples will include pincushions, pillows, bags, coasters and table runners to name a few.
