I recently joined the Cyber Stitchers and decided to do the President’s Challenge – so this week I have been working on the Jan/Feb/Mar Clues of the Month Sampler. I am also doing a re-make of Trish Burr’s “Spartan” Iris from her Color Confidence book. This is a very dark iris and the stitching outline was confusing as to differentiating the various petals. My end result in the shading just did not look right after I finished picking out several times and stitching over stitches. This ended up being a good education piece for me in studying the original artwork by Graham Rust, re-doing the stitching outline to differentiate the petals and now re-stitching the piece to try an achieve a more blended and smoother look in my stitching. I usually do smaller projects, and the iris is my first large threadpainting one. I am also setting up Hazel Blompkamp’s “Norman” the turtle from her Crewel Creations book, another first for me in learning new techniques. I am also thinking about entering a project in the Greater Pacific Region Seminar 2020 – another first as I have never entered any of my work in a judged or non-judged venue – for this I am thinking of doing a small piece of my own design which will include Goldwork technique, as I just finished the EGA course and want to continue practicing this technique. Many other projects lined up to keep me busy while staying at home. Embroidery has turned out to be another career after retirement!!
