Statement from EGA regarding COVID-19
The health and safety of our membership is of paramount importance to EGA. We urge all members to use their best judgement when it comes to travel and attending events with large groups. Concerning our upcoming National Seminar in Boston in September, the Seminar Chairman, National Seminar Director and all members of the national executive committee continue to monitor the situation carefully and will make adjustments as needed. As a reminder to all, registration opens as scheduled on March 14. We encourage you to register for the class of your choice and also view all of the other wonderful activities available to you.
Open Registration Instructions and Form
All registrations are on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. Registration is open to all EGA members. Non-EGA participants are welcome for an additional fee of $60. If you wish to join EGA, contact headquarters at (502) 589-6956 or click here. Your membership must be on file or in process by May 31, 2020.
Registration can be completed either online or by mail. A downloadable registration form is below and link to register online will be available starting March 14 at 12 PM ET. Registration must be postmarked or completed online between March 14 and June 15, 2020.
All requests for changes must be submitted to the assistant registrar in writing, with receipt of same confirmed by the assistant registrar. Changes to class registration requested after May 15, 2020, will incur a $30 administrative fee for EACH request. No administrative fee will be assessed for adding classes, banquet tickets, or other events. All changes are subject to availability.
Banquet sign-ups and cancellations must be received and confirmed by the assistant seminar registrar by July 31, 2020, for the seminar opening and closing banquets.
If you require a special meal, check the box on the registration form. Special meals must be requested by July 31, 2020.
To invite a guest to attend one or both banquets, please mark the appropriate banquet(s) on the registration form. Each banquet is listed separately. Include the charge(s) in your total registration cost. Note that a guest will receive a banquet favor as part of the ticket price.
Note: If you are unable to attend a banquet, we ask that you inform us ahead of time. Although refunds are not possible, favors can be picked up while at seminar. Watch for details to come in communications from seminar beginning summer of 2020.
Payment of Fees
Payment of class fees, as well as fees for special events and optional items, is due with registration. Kit fees and adjustments for mail-in registrations will be billed as received. Money orders or personal checks in U.S. funds should be made payable to “EGA Seminar 2020.” Visa, MasterCard, or Discover is accepted. Any remaining billed fees will be due and payable no later than June 30, 2020.
A nonrefundable deposit ($100) is required for ALL attendees who register for two or more days of class. This deposit does not apply to nonparticipants or to early registrants who have already paid the deposit. Please note that this deposit has been included in the fees listed below, as applicable.
Class Registration Fees
The following fees include the nonrefundable deposit and the Hospitality Package, but DO NOT include kit, tour, special event, or optional item fees. (The Hospitality Package includes the seminar pin and handbook.)
Five Days of Class/Friday and Monday Banquets ($775) includes your choice of one Friday class and four days of classes (either one four-day class or two two-day classes), and both banquets.
Four Days of Class/Friday and Monday Banquets ($690) includes your choice of four days of classes (either one four-day class or two two-day classes) and both banquets.
Three Days of Class and One Banquet ($480) includes your choice of one Friday-Sunday three-day class with either banquet, one Saturday/Sunday class and one Friday class with either banquet, OR one Monday/Tuesday class and one Friday class with either banquet.
Two Days of Class and One Banquet ($395) includes your choice of one Saturday/Sunday class with either banquet, OR one Monday/Tuesday class with either banquet.
One-Day Class ($85) includes a Friday class and no banquet.
Other Registration Fees
Nonmember Fee ($60) applies to those registering for classes who are not members of EGA.
Nonparticipant Fee ($260) for those not taking classes at seminar. Must be registered at one of the designated seminar hotels as part of the EGA-negotiated room block. The fee includes two banquets and the Hospitality Package.
Facilities Use Fee ($425) applies to those not staying at the designated hotel(s) at the EGA-negotiated rate. See policy on the tabs below.
Reminder: All student electronics, including task lights, used in the classrooms must be battery-operated.

Class Selection and Proficiency Levels
We have made every effort to describe each class accurately. Please rely on the class description as your primary guide in choosing your class(es), paying particular attention to the techniques used, materials, and level of difficulty. If a student registers for a class that is beyond the student’s proficiency level, we are not responsible for the student’s success in the class.
To help you select a class, please be familiar with the following EGA proficiency-level definitions:
Basic: No experience with the technique being taught is necessary.
Intermediate: Knowledge of basic stitches, materials, and their use in the technique being taught is required.
Advanced: Ability to execute simple and difficult stitches in the technique is required. The student should also have knowledge of color and design that will allow exploration and creativity.
All levels: Class is suitable for all levels.
Reminder: All student electronics, including task lights, used in the classrooms must be battery-operated.
Registration will be open to everyone. All registrations postmarked or completed online between March 14, 2020 and June 15, 2020 will be treated on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. All registrations must be accompanied with payment for the total amounts.
All fees are due upon registration.
Requests for Class Changes

Open Registration Final Date

Hotel Room Reservations Deadline
To receive the EGA Seminar 2020 room rate, you must complete your hotel room reservation before 6:00 PM EDT, July 31, 2020. After that date, the block of rooms held for seminar will be released to the general public.
All Outstanding Remittances Due
Any remaining billed fees will be due and payable no later than June 30, 2020.

The seminar rate is $199.00 plus tax per night. Rooms may have a king bed, a queen bed or two double beds, and can accommodate triple occupancy or quadruple occupancy.
Reminder: Facilities Use
A one-time facilities use fee of $425 will apply to all persons registered for two or more days of classes or as nonparticipants who do not stay at Sheraton Boston Hotel or other designated hotel(s) or to anyone staying at the Sheraton Boston Hotel or other designated hotel(s) with a room rate other than the EGA-negotiated rate, unless the seminar chair approves alternate arrangements. This one-time fee applies because their stay will not be considered part of the seminar room block which contributes toward payment of the event and classroom space.

The deadline for making reservations is 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, Friday, July 31, 2020.
The Sheraton Boston Hotel currently charges $42.00 per day for parking. Valet parking is currently $58.00 per day. These rates are subject to change.
The Sheraton Boston Hotel is located about 4 miles from Logan International Airport (BOS). One-way taxi service from the airport to the hotel costs about $30.00. Other options can be found here.

Winning Ways – Lecturers Coming Soon
Friday, September 4, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Winning Ways are a series of four lectures given on the first day of the seminar. Sponsored by the EGA Certified Needlework Judging Program, the lectures cover various subjects within the realm of color, design, technique, and general information. The lectures are geared to textile judges, teachers and all members of EGA interested in color, design, improving skills, or increasing their knowledge about current trends in needlework and textiles.

Jennifer Riefenberg Known for her landscapes and superb use of color, Jennifer will be speaking to us on the use of color.
Adria Arch Speaking of Abstraction: An Illustrated Talk to Demystify Abstract Art An illustrated talk to demystify abstract art by a local artist. The lecture will explore the history of the art form to understand how abstraction can be a compelling and expressive language.
Chris Berry Chris will be discussing her interest in Venice, Italy and how the architecture influences her design process.
Tricia Nguyen A review of appropriate materials, color and design for historical needlework.

Take time during the week to visit EGA’s Education Exhibit in the Exhibit Hall (Constitution Ballroom 2nd floor) — open everyday starting at noon on Friday, September 4th and closes on Tuesday, September 8th at 1:30.
This year the Education Exhibit features the 2020 entries in the Bobbie Pilling competition and Golden Needle Awards (including the ribbon winners), Fiber Forum entries, Master Craftsman entries (including some of the Master Craftsman programs with all six steps), Extended Study Program tours, group, individual and online correspondence courses! There are several new courses plus some of the familiar ones stitched by our members! We will also have a viewer’s choice award for the Golden Needles Awards – vote for your favorite!
In addition, the special exhibit this year is the “New England Region (NER) Member Tea Cozy Exhibit”. Boston is the perfect city to celebrate all things tea! NER members are pleased to share their Tea Cozies in this special exhibit for Boston Stitch Party 2020. The New England Region Member Tea Cozy Exhibit will be located in the exhibit hall and open the same hours as the Education Exhibit.
The hours for the Education Exhibit are Friday, September 4: noon -6:00 PM, Saturday, September 5 – Monday, September 7: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM and on the final day, Tuesday, September 8: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM.
Seminar 2021 Preview and Early Registration

All seminar attendees are welcome to attend the EGA annual meeting! Just bring your lunch, find a chair and listen to what is happening within our organization. You’ll also be able to put a face to a name and see the people who represent you and your chapter in making decisions at the national level. We would love to see you there!

You be the Judge…What was the judge thinking? Have you exhibited embroidery and been frustrated by comments written on your scorecard, or receive no feedback at all? During Seminar on Sunday, September 6th come to the Judging Forum and meet with EGA Certified Judges and eliminate the mystery of judging.
You will view a few of the pieces in the exhibition and fill out judging forms so you can see what a judge looks for when evaluating an entry. See if you agree with the judges. Meet us in the Grand Ballroom for this informal discussion. This is a come-and-go type of event. No food allowed, so grab a bite before you come or after.

All are invited to the Teachers’ Showcase. Here you can learn about projects and classes offered by many talented and creative teachers. This event may entice your chapter or region to try something new! Teachers, this is a venue for you to meet prospective students and discuss your new classes and your old favorites! You do not need to be teaching at Seminar 2020 to participate in the Teachers’ Showcase.
ICC/GCC/Online Studio Teacher Meeting
Tuesday, September 8, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
All teachers are encouraged to attend this meeting to discuss topics for Group and Individual Correspondence Courses and the online studio. Come to learn, offer your comments, and ask questions.
