Individual Correspondence Courses
Individual Correspondence Courses are available only to EGA members.
Individual Correspondence Courses offer EGA members intense, personalized study under the supervision of teachers selected for their outstanding needlework skills and knowledge. The courses are in-depth study programs dealing with a wide range of embroidery techniques and disciplines at various skill levels. They are a perfect complement to workshop classes, group study courses, and lectures.
If you are self-motivated and like individual study, if you do not have easy access to a chapter, want to study a topic your chapter has not scheduled, or if you prefer to work at your own pace in the quiet of your home, these courses are designed for you. As more and more satisfied graduates share their enthusiasm for these courses with chapter members and friends, the popularity of the Independent Study program continues to grow.
Individual Correspondence Courses come in three lengths:
- Three-lesson courses are designed to be completed within 6 months
- Six- and nine- lesson courses require a commitment of a year or more
Students are expected to maintain a time schedule, but extensions can be granted.
The text for each course contains instruction in stitches, materials, tools, techniques, and their application, as well as historical background. As each lesson is completed, it is sent to the instructor for evaluation. Evaluation is both a critical review of the work and a vehicle for helping with problems and suggesting improvements. Teachers encourage experimentation and individual expression while offering suggestions for further development.
- Upon completion of the course, a certificate is awarded and the student's achievement is recognized in Needle Arts
- Individual Correspondence Course Recognition Pin
Graduates receive blue enamel commemorative pin with thread indication of course completed.
