Fiber Forum Information

Fiber Forum

Fiber Forum was organized in 1992 in order to advance embroidery as an art form through the exhibition of original works of exceptional merit. To this end, the group endeavors to have a biennial exhibit in art centers, galleries, or museums throughout the country. It also exhibits annually at the National Seminar in the Education Exhibit.

New Members are juried in each year by accredited judges on the basis of both aesthetic achievement and technical skill. Members are juried through digital photos of original, non-teaching pieces. To remain a member of Fiber Forum requires re-jurying at least every three years with digital photo submissions of members’ new work. This procedure encourages each person to set a learning challenge and helps to attain personal goals. Upon acceptance, the membership fee is $25.00 annually.

EGA members interested in keeping abreast of the activities of Fiber Forum may become a member of Fiber Forum Friends. The Fiber Forum Friends as well as members receive dates for Fiber Forum jurying, exhibits, and other news. To become a Friend, sign up on line by using the link to the right, or send your name, address, membership and telephone numbers, e-mail address, chapter name, and region, together with $10.00 check (payable to EGA), or Visa/MasterCard #, expiration date, and signature to EGA National Headquarters. Please indicate “Fiber Forum Friend.” Fiber Forum Friends is open to any EGA member.

with Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn of Great Britain

Highly regarded teachers and authors of dozens of inspiring fiber art books and booklets, Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn are noted for their no-holds-barred approach to fabric, thread and paint. The theme they have set for the Fiber Forum Retreat is Stitch Scapes and they will lecture on “Travel to Stitch.” The four-day workshop will begin with structured exercises that explore surfaces through stitch, embellishing and mixed media and finish with design and composition exercises that lead to a resolved textile. No class will be held on Wednesday so that you can visit some of the museums and galleries of Santa Fe. See Jan and Jean’s work and their publications at:
www.doubletrouble-ent.com.

Members of Fiber Forum can register now; Friends of Fiber Forum may enroll starting July 1. Beginning August 1, registration to the Fiber Forum Retreat opens to any member of EGA. Deadline for registration and final payment is November 30, 2010. The registration price is $500 which includes the four days’ instruction and Sunday dinner. The retreat will be at The Lodge at Santa Fe on North St. Francis Dr, just outside of town but with plenty of parking and an hourly shuttle bus to the Plaza. Fiber Forum has negotiated a rate of $120 per room with continental breakfast. Visit www.lodgeatsantafe.com.
